 PSYCHOLOGY

We do take into account psychological issues while we investigate, we do not look up the history of the place before investigating.

We write down anything that happens on an investigation when it happens, this is to rule out the brain distorting anything that has happened as the brain can fill in false information after an event and/or the brain can change information and therefore true accounts may become partially false.

We also try not to discuss anything that happens while on an investigation everything is written down and discussed at the end of the investigation, this rules out mass hysteria and the power of suggestion. Sometimes this is hard to do under some circumstances but we do this 99% of the time.

If we split up into groups and then meet to swap locations we do not discuss what has happened, this becomes very interesting when you have similar activities happen by each group in one location at different times, this also rules out power of suggestion.

When notes are taken, times and where in the location the activity has taken place is also noted, the notes can be compared for any comparisons. I am given the notes at the end of the night and I type the reports from the notes, all notes are kept in an archive for furture reference if they are ever needed.

Because of psychological reasons we do not drink alcohol while on an investigation even if we are investigating a premise that sells alcohol, you need a clear mind to investigate.

PSYCHOLOGY – PARANORMAL
I thought I would break the tradition of using psychology to disapprove the paranormal and use evidence of psychology that could back up different things that happen when we are investigating. I know this probably could be argued back by counter arguments, so be it but it is about time someone used psychology to back up the paranormal instead of using it to dispute it. Afterall psychology is used in ‘normal life’ to back up and support/explain why a person behave the way they do.

HEARING
What you hear will depend on where the sound is coming from to where your ears are and it also depends on the type of wavelengths being heard. You can tell where a sound comes from, when it is at long waves length (i.e. deeper speech sounds). Naturally occurring sounds usually contain many wavelengths and therefore are better judged for where sounds are coming from. It is generally thought that we can listen to one sound at a time, but this is debated. Attention to sound is directed on the direction of the sound or if the sound is high or low pitched. Attenuation process (only one message is used for full processing and other messages are given partial processing) acts like a filter but if our name were called (noises in our case) outside of full processing then our attention would then be attracted to that noise (partial processing which then becomes full processing). (So this could explain why some people hear noises at haunted locations and others don’t, it could depend on what direction you are standing, i.e. your ears could be in a different direction to other people that hear the noise/don’t hear the noise. Maybe this is also why some people pick up noises as some people are more able to use the attenuation filter process better than others, also maybe because we are at a haunted location and ask/expect noises to happen and therefore we are filtering these noises as we are fully aware that noises go with hauntings (of course also can be power of suggestion). Maybe this could explain why sometimes we can not suggest where a noise is coming from, because the noise is in short waves and maybe this could also explain why some members have different views to where a noise is coming from).

VISUAL – SEEING

Visual items and colour/location are in different regions of the brain (Cortex) which means it needs time for attention to process the information and therefore sometimes you might not be able to describe what you saw but you might have a feeling of something but not what it looks like. Also when we blink (attentional blink) we are unable to process any information as we miss it due to blinking. Also research shows that some stuff is seen but the person is not aware of it, this is known as perception without awareness and perception without attention. (This could explain why some people see something but can not describe/explain what they saw, as what they saw might not have been processed long enough for a description. And maybe this is why some people say they can’t say for certain what they saw, but they felt like it was………whatever. The attentional blinking could also explain why some people see things and other people don’t).
